Do I need a Nuki Bridge?

The Nuki Bridge (€99) connects a Bluetooth-only smart lock to your Wi-Fi so you can lock, unlock and hand out access while you're away. Current Nuki locks no longer need it. Here is which models do, what the alternatives cost and when the Bridge still makes sense. Details and prices from nuki.io, as of 18 October 2026.

What to check

Smart Lock Pro or Ultra: no Bridge. Both have a Wi-Fi module built in and connect straight to your router, with remote access included. Nuki says the Ultra is not compatible with the Bridge at all – the Bridge connects Smart Lock generations 1 to 4 and the Smart Door.

Smart Lock Go: €49 once instead of a Bridge. The Go also has Wi-Fi on board; remote access is unlocked with a one-time €49 payment in the Nuki app or shop – no monthly fee. Alternatively the Go connects through a Matter hub over Thread (it needs NAT64). Locking and unlocking from your smart home app works remotely even without the €49.

Smart Lock 4th generation and older: Bridge or Thread. The standard 4th-generation lock has no Wi-Fi. It goes online with the Bridge or, for a one-time €49, via Thread and a Matter hub. Generations 1 to 3 without a Wi-Fi module need the Bridge.

The Opener still needs the Bridge. Nuki recommends the Opener for the building's front door only together with the Bridge, because Bluetooth from the phone rarely reaches the entrance in an apartment block. The Bridge also lets you buzz visitors in while you're away.

Where it goes. The Bridge plugs into a wall socket (110–240 V) within about 5 m of the lock – walls and heavy furniture shorten that – and needs 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi at that spot. Several Nuki devices within range can share one Bridge.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a Nuki Bridge?

Not for current models. The Smart Lock Pro and Ultra have Wi-Fi built in and include remote access; the Smart Lock Go unlocks remote access for a one-time €49. The Bridge (€99) is for the Opener, the Smart Door and Smart Lock generations 1 to 4 (nuki.io, 18 October 2026).

What does the Nuki Bridge cost?

Does the Smart Lock Ultra work with the Bridge?

No. It is a one-time payment of €49 in the Nuki app or shop with no monthly costs. After that the Go connects over its built-in Wi-Fi or a Matter hub with Thread.

Does the Nuki Opener need a Bridge?

Nuki recommends using the Opener only with the Bridge, because Bluetooth often does not reach the building's front door. With the Bridge you can also open the entrance for visitors while you're away.

What does the Bridge need?

A wall socket within about 5 m of the lock and 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi at that spot. No user account is needed; data is only stored on Nuki's servers if you use the optional Nuki Web.

Does the Nuki discount code work on the Bridge?

Buy the Bridge only for an Opener, a Smart Door or a 1st–4th generation Smart Lock that you want online without a Matter hub.
