Nuki Power Pack and battery life

How long a Nuki smart lock runs on one charge depends on the model, the batteries and how it is connected. The Go and older locks take the Power Pack or four AA batteries, the Pro and Ultra have a built-in battery. Here are Nuki's own runtime figures and what to buy. Details and prices from nuki.io and the Nuki help centre, as of 18 October 2026.

What to know

Go and older locks: Power Pack or AA. The Smart Lock Go, the 4th generation and all earlier generations have a removable battery compartment for four AA batteries; the Power Pack (€49) replaces it. Nuki says it runs 1–2 months longer than alkaline batteries thanks to lower self-discharge. It reaches full capacity after 2–3 charges.

Charging the Power Pack. Either take it out and charge it with the included USB-C cable, or plug a long enough cable into one of its two USB-C ports while it stays in the lock – that also allows permanent power. A full charge takes about 10 hours; it only starts charging below 75%. Packs sold from July 2024 also support Power Delivery fast chargers.

If you stay with AA. Nuki recommends Panasonic Eneloop Pro rechargeables – about twice as long per charge as alkaline – or lithium batteries such as Energizer Ultimate Lithium, which last much longer but cost more. Cheap discount alkalines run down faster. Set the battery type in the app under Features & Configuration › Battery so warnings come at the right time.

Pro and Ultra: charge every few months. The battery is built in and never needs replacing. A magnetic USB-C cable (2 m, included) charges it in about 2 hours, mounted on the door or taken off. By default it charges to 80% to protect the battery; Nuki's 7–9 / 5–7 / 4–6 months assume 100%, which you can set in the app.

Connection eats the battery. Bluetooth only uses the least power, Thread a bit more, the built-in Wi-Fi module the most. On a 4th-generation lock the Bridge does not shorten runtime. Frequent smart-home status polls, a stiff door and cold weather also drain it faster.

When it runs empty. Nuki warns below 20% in the app, by push and on the lock. If you miss it, open with the mechanical key – which is why Nuki recommends a cylinder with an emergency function. Which lock to choose is in our Go vs Pro vs Ultra comparison.

Frequently asked questions

How long does the Nuki Power Pack last?

According to Nuki, 8–10 months on a Smart Lock Go or 4th generation used over Bluetooth, 7–9 months with Thread and 6 months with the Wi-Fi module. On a Smart Lock 3.0 it is 6 months, or 4 months with Wi-Fi.

Which locks does the Power Pack fit?

The Smart Lock Go, the 4th generation and all earlier generations – every Nuki smart lock with removable batteries. The Pro (5th gen) and Ultra have a built-in battery and don't take it.

How long does the Power Pack take to charge?

About 10 hours with the included USB-C cable. You can charge it in the lock or taken out; it reaches full capacity after 2–3 charges.

How long does the battery of the Smart Lock Pro or Ultra last?

On average 7–9 months without remote access, 5–7 months with Thread and 4–6 months with the built-in Wi-Fi module, each from a 100% charge. Charging takes about 2 hours.

Can I use rechargeable AA batteries?

Yes, in the Go and older locks. Nuki tested Panasonic Eneloop Pro, which last about twice as long as alkaline per charge. Lithium batteries also work and last much longer.

What happens when the battery is empty?

Nuki warns you below 20%. If the lock runs empty you open the door with your mechanical key, so a cylinder with an emergency function is recommended.

Does the Nuki discount code work on the Power Pack?

Our code gives new customers 10% off orders over €149 in the official Nuki shop. The Power Pack (€49) alone is below that; together with a Smart Lock Go the order is €198 and costs €178.20.

Our take

With a Smart Lock Go the Power Pack pays off: €49 once instead of new AA batteries every few months, 8–10 months per charge on Bluetooth, and with our code the Go and Power Pack together cost €178.20. If you don't want to think about batteries at all, the Pro (€279) and Ultra (€369) have a built-in battery that charges in about 2 hours.
